Sam Smolik

Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment and Operational Excellence

Sam Smolik is vice president, Health, Safety, Environment and Operational Excellence. He is based in Houston, Texas. With annual revenues of $45 billion*, LyondellBasell manufactures products at 58 sites in 18 countries.

Prior to joining LyondellBasell in November 2009, Smolik was vice president, Global Downstream Health, Safety, Security and Environment of Royal Dutch Shell. Prior to joining Shell, he was vice president, Global Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Sustainable Development with The Dow Chemical Company and also held a variety of domestic and international leadership positions in manufacturing,   process engineering, process control and information systems.

Smolik currently holds a number of leadership positions with organizations including The University of Texas at Austin (Engineering Advisory Board); Antwerp International School Foundation (President, Board of Directors); Ducks Unlimited (National Conservation Programs Committee), and the Coastal Conservation Association (Foundation Committee). He is also active with the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and with the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM).

Smolik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
