Sergey Vasnetsov is senior vice president, strategic planning and transactions for LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest olefins, polyolefins, chemicals and refining companies. He is based in Houston, Texas.
Most recently, Vasnetsov served as managing director and head of the Global Chemical Research Group for Barclays Capital.
He started his industrial career as a senior chemist at the Union Carbide's corporate polyolefin catalysts research and development center in Bound Brook, NJ. Since 1996, Vasnetsov has worked at several investment banks as a senior research analyst covering chemicals. He has been recognized as one of the top chemical analysts by the Institutional Investor Magazine in each of 2000-2009 annual investor surveys, and he brings a broad and deep knowledge of the global chemicals industry.
Vasnetsov graduated with a Masters of Science degree in kinetics and catalysis from the University of Novosibirsk in Russia and was a George Soros Scholar at Oxford University (UK). He later earned an MBA in finance from Rutgers University.
