Brunella is a process engineer working in manufacturing and services at the Brindisi, Italy, plant.
After receiving her masters degree from Federico II University in Naples, Brunella embarked on a professional engineering career, joining LyondellBasell in 2003. As senior technologist in the Brindisi technology support unit, Brunella loves the challenge of troubleshooting and problemsolving in the site’s two production plants.
"My department provides technical support to the production plants," she explains.
"We are responsible for safety assurance – the safety of equipment, processes, procedure and people – as well as the assurance of environment, quality and productivity improvement."
All these tasks require cross-functional teams – production, maintenance and health, safety, environment and quality – cooperating across the site. Often a technologist like myself will act as coordinator or facilitator of an improvement team, solving problems on both a daily and longer-term basis.
What advice would you give a new colleague joining LyondellBasell?
"Watch, listen, talk, ask questions, follow your team, your boss and your colleagues. Ask for help, too. Keep learning: the more you learn the bigger the contribution you can make in your job.
"The best thing about my job is working cooperatively in a team towards common goals, especially relating to technical issues. The biggest problem is that human beings aren’t perfect. But most problems can be overcome with good, open communication."
