Thomas works as a Technical Superintendent at the Moerdijk, Netherlands, manufacturing facility.

Thomas seems to be taking to heart the old adage about there being two sides to every story. For starters, his academic credentials include studies in mechanical engineering, economics engineering and additional HSE engineering.

For another, he has worked in two countries during his LyondellBasell career, moving from the company’s plant in Wesseling, Germany to its facility in Moerdijk, The Netherlands.

Finally, the Moerdijk site’s two plants manufacture two of the company’s signature materials: Catalloy process resins, and polybutene-1. And Thomas is responsible for legal related inspections, site projects, workplanning, IT and the technical reliability of both plants.

It is one of the advantages of working for such a large company — the opportunity to gain diverse experience and know-how.

Far from being overwhelmed, Thomas very much enjoys "the different scope of work and the challenge to be a part of the improvement process." His confidence in the success of his mission rests on the strength of his fellow workers. "I am working with a good team," he acknowledges, "who together have an active influence on our ability to reach the plant’s reliability targets."

Since he began working with the company in 1996, Thomas has been given responsibility for different jobs in different departments. "It is one of the advantages of working for such a large company — the opportunity to gain diverse experience and know-how."

He also appreciates that the global reach of LyondellBasell has made it possible for him to take the advantage to widen the knowledge exchange and make new contacts within the new environment.
