MPDiol glycol is a pumpable liquid at 100% solids, providing the resin manufacturer with an easy to handle intermediate for the production of polyester resins. Additionally, the molecule has two primary hydroxyls and little affinity for water resulting in up to 30% faster esterification rates for the same acid number resins as compared to commonly used diols. MPDiol glycol-based resins tend to be less viscous, which aids in reducing the amount of solvent required in end use applications. The unsymmetrical nature of diol's backbone provides clear resins with longer shelf life and excellent weatherability to the end user. The resulting products are quite versatile and can be used as intermediates in solventborne and waterborne polyurethane resin synthesis, high solids polyesters, and powder polyester resins.
