Ethylene oxide is used in the manufacture of surfactants, industrial cleaners, cosmetics, emulsifiers, paint, heat transfer fluids and glycols for polyester fibers and film, PET resin and antifreeze.
Properties
EO is a colorless gas at room temperature and a liquid at 12°C; it is soluble in organic solvents and miscible in water. EO is a chemically reactive material and is used in the manufacture of ethylene glycols, ethanolamines, glycol ethers, surface-active agents and polyether polyols.
