The Geelong Plant and the Clyde Plant are committed to safety and operate jointly under a comprehensive emergency response plan that includes having skilled internal fire crew and a 24-hour link to external emergency authorities and LyondellBasell management.
Environmental Performance. The company has developed measures that minimize environmental impact. These include the safe treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes, prevention of air, water and soil pollution, and energy conservation. The company’s environmental management system was certified to ISO 14001 in 2001.
The Geelong Plant received the 2007 Sustainability Award for Chemical Plants from the Plastics and Chemical Industry Association (PACIA) in recognition of the plant’s approach in the expansion project. The plant was commended for its efforts at energy efficiency, safety performance during construction and the proactive engagement and consultation with the community, neighbours and stakeholders.
In 2008, LyondellBasell Australia entered into a voluntary sustainability covenant with the Victorian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Plastics and Chemicals Industry Association aimed at further embedding sustainable business growth principles within the organization and supporting product innovation for greater resource efficiency in the Australian polypropylene market.
