Operational Excellence. Operational Excellence is LyondellBasell’s broadly institutionalized and disciplined management system to achieve reliable and measurable performance that enables us to drive continuous improvement in every aspect of our business. This management system includes the Manufacturing Operational Excellence Principles of Safety and Health, Environment, Quality, Reliability, Cost and Efficiency, People and Community.
Safety Performance. In 2008, our employees and contractors achieved a milestone of working six years without a recordable injury. This represents more than 2 million hours of safe work, and is due to a culture at our site in which safety is considered an important value.
Environmental Performance. We have made significant reductions in waste and emissions. More than 90 percent of our wastes are recycled, and we have reduced total wastes by 350 tons between 2001 and 2007. We have also made significant reductions in fugitive emissions as the result of the implementation of a leak-detection-and-repair program in 2005
Energy Efficiency. We have applied Six Sigma methodology to our energy reduction efforts and are realizing significant improvements in energy efficiency.
