Community outreach. Plant managers meet regularly with community leaders to discuss the importance of environmental and safety performance at industrial sites.
Explore & Experiment. Through LyondellBasell’s Explore & Experiment program, our employee volunteers offer hands-on science activities to local classrooms, sparking student interest in science. We also offer area teachers science-training workshops that help them use our Explore & Experiment curriculum in the classroom.
Global Care Day. Thousands of our employees, worldwide, work to make a difference in the world by joining this annual community-service day.
This year, Lansing volunteers cleaned, did yard work and repaired Haven House, which provides emergency housing and support for one- and two-parent families with children.
Philanthropy. Our employees open their hearts and wallets to support local organizations. For example, they generously support local community-service agencies through an annual payroll-pledge campaign that benefits Gateway United Way. They also host a United Way fundraiser.
Volunteerism. We encourage our employees’ engagement in the local community.
Our employee volunteers have made educational presentations to nearly 150 8th-grade students at Kinawa Middle School. The presentations focused on how plastics are made, how they are beneficial to our quality of life, and how important it is that they be properly recycled. Students learned about recycling codes on plastic items and the recycling methods used with each of them. Students and LyondellBasell volunteers discussed how to improve the recycling process, and each student was asked to contribute an idea to make it easier to recycle plastic items. The ideas were compiled into a booklet for Michigan’s governor to consider incorporating into state recycling programs.
Collectively, our employees spend hundreds of hours each month in volunteer service. They serve as firefighters, police officers, volunteer emergency-medical technicians, science-fair judges, referees, Scout leaders and coaches.
