Explore & Experiment. LyondellBasell’s Explore & Experiment program offers our employee volunteers performing hands-on science activities in local classrooms, sparking student interest in science. We also offer area teachers science-training workshops that help them use our Explore & Experiment curriculum in the classroom.
Global Care Day. Thousands of our employees, worldwide, work to make a difference in the world by joining this annual community-service day.
This year, our Community Champion volunteers beautified the Armand Bayou Nature Center by cutting back overgrown vines, trimming trees, landscaping, removing debris and repairing a fence.
Philanthropy. Our employees open their hearts and wallets to support local organizations. For example, they generously support local community-service agencies through an annual United Way payroll-pledge campaign.
Volunteerism. We encourage our employees’ engagement in the local community.
Bayport Underwood employees are active in many local community groups, including La Porte Neighborhood Center, Armand Bayou Nature Center, the Clear Creek and La Porte education foundations, Rebuilding Together, and the Clear Creek and La Porte independent school districts.
They also piloted the Study Buddy and Pen Pals mentoring programs at Jennie Reid Elementary in La Porte Independent School District, one of its partner schools; support the Pasadena ISD districtwide robotics program; and annually host Clear Creek ISD students for a semester of job shadowing in various jobs at the plant.
Collectively, our employees spend hundreds of hours each month in volunteer service. They serve as volunteer emergency-medical technicians, science-fair judges, referees, Scout leaders and coaches.
Community-service awards. Together with the company’s other Bay Area plants, the Bayport Underwood Plant was recognized by the City of Shoreacres with LyondellBasell Day in 2010, honoring the plant for its community service for several years, especially for help after Hurricane Ike.
The Bayport Underwood Plant has received many awards for its commitment to community service. They include the Industry of the Year awards from both the La Porte and Pasadena chambers of commerce; Community Partner of the Year awards from the Bay Area Turning Point, Clear Creek ISD, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake; the Houston Mayor’s Proud Partner Award; as well as community-service awards from Galveston Bay Foundation, Adopt-a-Beach, and Harris County Precinct 2.
