We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.
Community outreach. Our managers meet regularly with a panel of residents, school officials and local business leaders to discuss the site’s environmental and safety performance, community activities, and other concerns and expectations. The Community Advisory Panel has existed since 1991.
Explore & Experiment. Through LyondellBasell’s Explore & Experiment program, our employee volunteers offer hands-on science activities to local classrooms, sparking student interest in science. We also offer area teachers science-training workshops that help them use our Explore & Experiment curriculum in the classroom.
Global Care Day. Thousands of our employees, worldwide, work to make a difference in the world by joining this annual community-service day.
This year, we:
Philanthropy. Our employees open their hearts and wallets to support local organizations. For example, they generously support local community-service agencies through an annual United Way payroll-pledge campaign.
Volunteerism. We encourage our employees’ active engagement in the local community. Our employees volunteer more than 7,000 hours annually in various educational, environmental and community activities.
They participate in local events such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and Rebuilding Together, which helps refurbish the homes of needy senior citizens. We partner with the Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner by participating in and sponsoring many programs for youths and senior citizens.
Our employees also serve as firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, science-fair judges, Scout leaders and coaches.
Community-service awards. The Channelview complex has received the Texas Chemical Council Care For Texas awards for the past seven years. This award recognizes petrochemical facilities exemplary achievements in plant operation performance categories and commitment to their employees and surrounding communities. The categories are safety, environment, security, emergency response and community outreach.
The site has received Industry of the Year award issued by the Economic Alliance – Houston Port Region, and recognized by Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 2 Sylvia Garcia for the site’s support in youth and senior programs.
