Community Involvement
Channelview Chemical Complex>

At LyondellBasell, the communities where we operate are important to us and we strive to make these communities better places to live and work.

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

Community Advisory Panel. Our Channelview complex management meets regularly with a panel of residents, school officials and local business leaders to discuss the site’s environmental and safety performance, community activities, and other concerns and expectations. This panel has been in existence for sixteen years.

Volunteerism. Employees are encouraged to volunteer their time to key community organizations. In 2007, our Channelview complex employees volunteered more than 7,000 hours in various education, environmental and community activities. Employees participate in local events such as the Global Care Day, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, and Rebuilding Together, a program which helps refurbish low-income senior citizen’s homes. The company continues to partner with Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia by participating and sponsoring many of her youth and senior programs.

Explore & Experiment. Employee volunteers conduct hands-on science learning activities in local school classrooms. Engineers, chemists and other professionals from our Channelview complex conduct science demonstrations throughout the year with area students who have benefited from the science expertise of our employees. Area teachers also have participated in science training workshops to help them use the Explore & Experiment curriculum in the classroom.
