Community Involvement
Chocolate Bayou Plant>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

Community Outreach. Plant management meets every two months with the Chocolate Bayou Industries Community Advisory Panel, a group of residents, school officials and local business leaders, to discuss the site's environmental and safety performance, community activities and other concerns and expectations. For more information about the CAP, contact independent facilitator Jeri Gibbs at Jeri.Gibbs@brazosport.edu.

Explore & Experiment. LyondellBasell’s Explore & Experiment program offers employee volunteers performing hands-on science activities to local classrooms, sparking student interest in science. We also offer area teachers science-training workshops that help them use our Explore & Experiment curriculum in the classroom.

Global Care Day. Thousands of our employees, worldwide, work to make a difference in the world by joining this annual community-service day. In 2010, the plant worked with local residents to make the grounds of the city of Liverpool's new City Hall more beautiful and easier for residents to park. Past projects have included painting rooms at Kidz Harbor shelter and constructing an educational nature habitat for use as an outdoor classroom at E.C. Mason Elementary School in Alvin Independent School District. Our volunteers also have tackled several projects at Danbury Middle School and Danbury High School, including extensive landscaping work and the construction of an outdoor science classroom.

Philanthropy. Our employees open their hearts and wallets to support local organizations. For example, they generously support local community-service agencies through an annual United Way payroll-pledge campaign.

Volunteerism. We encourage our employees’ active engagement in the local community. They serve as volunteer firefighters, volunteer emergency-medical technicians, science-fair judges, referees, Scout leaders and coaches.
