Community Involvement
Houston Office>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

As one of the region’s larger employers and responsible business leaders in the Houston area, LyondellBasell and our employees seek opportunities to contribute to the success of this community, both financially and through the active participation of our employees.

Among the local organizations where LyondellBasell and our employees support conservation and environmental enhancement are Hermann Park, where employees have organized the 2010 Global Care Day event; Trees for Houston; Keep Houston Beautiful, Arbor Day tree planting, which includes planting thousands of trees near the entrance to the airport; and Adopt-a-Beach cleanup programs.

LyondellBasell has been named a Keep Houston Beautiful Proud Partner for two consecutive years for recognition of multiple community service activities in the region. The company has previously been named the Outstanding Proud Partner and earned honorable mention recognition.

Employees support local schools and students in the Houston Independent School District, which recognized LyondellBasell for its contributions including volunteering in schools, mentoring, career fairs, science fairs and student tours. LyondellBasell also sponsors the district’s annual Teacher of the Year program.

Since 2000, the company has donated more than one million colorful plastic bags to the public libraries of the City of Houston and Harris County as a service to library patrons and to protect materials borrowed from the libraries.

LyondellBasell volunteers have been trained by the American Red Cross to participate in "Ready When the Time Comes," a program that helps trained workers to quickly mobilize in assisting in disaster recovery, such as hurricanes and floods.

Riders from LyondellBasell’s Cycle Team participate annually in the MS 150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin, Texas, to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The company has received the Mission Possible Award for four consecutive years in recognition of employee fundraising levels. Employees also have earned safety awards that recognize employee training programs, bike maintenance clinics and safety awareness programs.

LyondellBasell is a multi-year sponsor of Rebuilding Together, which provides volunteers to repair the homes of low income and elderly homeowners. Company volunteers work in teams to repair homes in the Houston, La Porte, Channelview and Beaumont areas. LyondellBasell teams have been recognized with the organization’s Golden Hammer Award for four consecutive years.

Employees participate in the Komen Houston Race for the Cure in support of raising money toward research and support of breast cancer patients. The LyondellBasell team, The Chemical Element, has helped to raise money and awareness for this important cause.

Volunteers from our company lend their time and talent to Literacy Advance Houston, an organization dedicated to teaching English to adults who are functionally illiterate. Teaching adults how to read and write helps enrich their lives by giving them the tools to overcome challenges in employment, healthcare, education and other areas.
