Daniel M. (Dan) Coombs is Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, Projects, and Refining for LyondellBasell, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world.
Coombs joined the company in 2015. He previously led LyondellBasell’s Global Intermediates & Derivatives, Olefins & Polyolefins and Technology businesses.
Prior to joining LyondellBasell, Coombs held various executive positions with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company including, senior vice president of Manufacturing; senior vice president Specialties, Aromatics and Styrenics; vice president Corporate Planning & Development and vice president Qatar and deputy general manager Qatar Chemical Company Ltd.
Coombs serves on the executive committee and board of directors of the American Fuels & Petrochemical Manufacturers Association (AFPM). He also serves on the Alumni Advisory Board for The Ohio State’s William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. In 2017, Coombs and his wife Ellen established the Daniel (’78) and Ellen (‘79) Coombs Chemical Engineering Endowed Scholarship Fund to support current Ohio State chemical engineering students.
Coombs holds a bachelor’s in chemical engineering (‘78) from The Ohio State University and a master’s in the same field from the University of Tulsa. He also holds a master’s in business administration from Texas A&M.
