Cincinnati Technology Center Provides Life Saving Tourniquets to First Responders

February 09, 2018

CINCINNATI, OH. - Feb. 9, 2018 –The first responders of the Sycamore Township Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department understand every second counts in a life critical event; especially when blood loss is involved. So, when the first responders approached LyondellBasell, operator of the Cincinnati Technology Center to provide tourniquets, the corporation understood the urgency of the request.

“The tourniquets have been used on the front lines of our armed forces to stop/reduce the amount of arterial blood loss caused from injuries suffered by our brave men and women,” said Jeffrey Newman, Fire Captain/Training Coordinator, Sycamore Township Fire Department. “They have proved invaluable, and now thanks to LyondellBasell, the benefits are now being used in our response to trauma related injuries right here in our community.”

A campaign to educate first responders and the public on the tourniquets application has been executed, and medical response teams are now expanding their education to area businesses and schools.

“With random acts of violence escalating in our society these low-cost tools can make a difference between life and death,” said Chuck Holland, the manager of LyondellBasell’s Cincinnati Technology Center. “We are proud to support our local first responders and provide critical tools like the tourniquets that can save a life.”
