Volunteers Tackle 10 Community Projects in Region

Employees Contribute Their Time to Make a Difference

LyondellBasell employees in Greater Houston will complete 10 service projects on April 13 as part of the company’s Global Care Day, a worldwide day of community service.  Locally, an estimated 750 volunteers with participate in the 14th annual event that will take place in 20 countries and involve projects in 67 communities. 

Target Hunger: 150+ LyondellBasell volunteers will be working to help revitalize a food bank near downtown Houston. Offices, classrooms and the food pantry at Target Hunger will be painted, organized and cleaned.  Activities will include painting, installing new signage, expanding a vegetable garden and hosting a food drive.

Boys and Girls Harbor: 70+ LyondellBasell volunteers will restore the Relief Cottage at a children’s refuge center in La Porte.  Projects include painting, cleaning, carpet removal, and adding kitchen/bathroom furnishings. Volunteers will also plant new vegetation around the cottage.

Channelview Thomas Bell Foster Park Project: 80+ LyondellBasell volunteers will partner with the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition and the Houston Parks Board on various projects benefitting Thomas Bell Park. Some of the projects include adding a canoe launch along the Greens Bayou, developing nature walking trails, constructing benches and adding new plants and trees.

Other Greater Houston Area Projects

  • Channelview Adopt-A-County-Road Project: 30+ volunteers will help clean county roadways of trash and debris along Wallisville and Sheldon Roads that the plant adopted from Harris County last year. 
  • Channelview Legend Oaks Healthcare & Rehabilitation Project: 40+ volunteers and their children will present hand painted flower pots with plants to local residents of the Legend Oaks Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. 
  • Houston and Galena Park ISD Project: 160+ Volunteers plan to install picnic tables, benches and bleachers at the city park adjacent to the Galena Park High School tennis courts.  Landscaping includes planting trees to provide beauty and shade and a small flower bed. 
  • Bay City Friends of Elder Citizens Project: 30+ Volunteers have several projects planned to benefit the Bay City Friends of Elder Citizens activity center including painting the activity room and halls, installing several communication notice systems, new benches, tables and chairs. The project plans to brighten up the center where local senior citizens gather to play games, have meals and fellowship with one another.
  • Armand Bayou Nature Center: 60+ volunteers will complete rehabilitation projects at Armand Bayou Nature Center. Projects include repairing the hawk cage as well as adding much needed fencing to viewing platforms on the property. 
  • La Porte High School: 70+ volunteers will be working alongside La Porte ISD seniors to completely replace the deck in the high school courtyard.  Activities also include building a new turtle box, planting vegetation, repairing the bird cages and repairing a pond. 
  • Alvin ISD Longfellow Elementary School: 30+ volunteers will work alongside Longfellow Elementary and Boy Scouts Troop 487 to give the school a much needed exterior facelift. Projects include complete renovation of flower beds, planting shrubs, relocating trees and installing a water hose reel.
