Communities to Benefit from Company and Employee Donations

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana, Feb. 24, 2017 – The Lake Charles Polymers Plant of LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, recently announced donations totaling $135,247 to the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.

"United Way mobilizes the caring power of communities to advance the common good; LyondellBasell is proud to be a part of their vital work," said Bob Patel, LyondellBasell CEO and chairman of the management board. "I am grateful for our employees across the U.S. who demonstrated their tremendous generosity during the company’s annual United Way campaign. Through their volunteer efforts and financial contributions, our employees exemplify our company’s mission to be a good neighbor in the communities where we operate."

As a result of the success of LyondellBasell’s local campaign, United Way of Southwest Louisiana recognized the Lake Charles Polymers Plant with its most prestigious honor, the 2016 Corporate Pride Award, during its Leaders and Legends Annual Meeting and Victory Celebration held at the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles. In addition to the Corporate Pride Award, given for their involvement and leadership to United Way both financially as well as through the volunteer efforts of their employees, the plant was also recognized with one of United Way’s 2016 President’s Awards.

"We are excited to honor LyondellBasell for their year-round support," said Denise Durel, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Louisiana. "They participate and support every element of our work and are a wonderful United Way community partner. We are honored to be in the LyondellBasell family and to have their tremendous involvement."

Daniel Pichette, site manager for the Lake Charles Polymers Plant, said his employees are devoted volunteers and supporters of United Way because they see firsthand the impact their involvement makes in the community.

"Supporting United Way is not just a corporate initiative here, it’s personal for many of our employees because they know their gifts make a difference to the young children, adults and seniors living in this area who desperately rely on this assistance," said Pichette.

In 2016, LyondellBasell held United Way campaigns at 23 company sites across the U.S. and raised a total of $2.65 million.
