Site Staff Also Presents Corporate Donation to Westlake Fire Department

WESTLAKE, La.  – August 25, 2016 – LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, hosted Louisiana State Sen. Ronnie Johns and Rep. Michael Danahay at the company’s Lake Charles site. The event included a tour of operations and town hall event with plant workers.

“No matter how much you read or hear about a business of this magnitude, there is no better way to appreciate what this industry means to our area and our state than a personal visit,” said  Sen. Johns. “With the influx of so much new industry to our area and the publicity that the growth has gotten, I continue to thank those industries who have been here for a long time and who have made a commitment to our local and state economy,” he added.

Westlake Mayor Bob Hardey and Fire Chief Jacques Picou were also in attendance and accepted a special donation from LyondellBasell to the Westlake Fire Department for the purchase of cooling fans and breathing canisters for firefighters.

“We would like to thank LyondellBasell for this grant. As with many fire departments, budgets are spread very thin as we try to maintain manpower,” said Fire Chief Picous. “Donations such as this one helps our department fill in the gaps with funding that often gets cut during the budget process. It’s relationships such as this that create a close bond and helps protect our community.”

“We greatly appreciate the dedication of our elected officials and the Westlake Fire Department to our community,” said LyondellBasell Site Manager Daniel Pichette. “It is important that those who hold office understand the benefits our company brings to the community by way of jobs and revenue. We are also very proud to support our local firefighters. LyondellBasell has strong relationships with first responders, often training with them and offering mutual aid.”

LyondellBasell’s Lake Charles Plant produces polypropylene that our customers use to make clothing, food packaging, household furnishings, automotive parts and home building materials.
