Volunteers Tackled Beautification Projects at the Shelter as Part of the Company’s 18th Annual LyondellBasell Global Care Day

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA, October 30, 2017 – LyondellBasell’s Lake Charles Polymers Plant employees, families and friends spent Saturday, October 28 working with the Salvation Army of Southwest Louisiana in celebration of the company’s 18th Annual Global Care Day. More than 40 volunteers helped to rebuild and paint the shelter’s fencing and landscaped the grounds of the facility. The volunteers pruned and removed overgrown trees and shrubs, weeded and prepared the vegetable garden for fall planting, and hauled away debris.

“For the past 18 years, LyondellBasell has been proud to extend the tradition of working across the world to impact our communities,” said Shawn Cullen, LyondellBasell’s Lake Charles site manager. “There is a strong desire to invest in the places where we live and operate and this is one the most important days of the year. Employees help to decide the organizations that we partner with and this day is a demonstration of our ambition to make a tangible difference.”

LyondellBasell is one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world. Workers from 58 manufacturing sites and offices in 23 countries participate in the annual Global Care Day activities.

“The Salvation Army is grateful to partner with LyondellBasell during their Global Care Day event,” said Lt. Richard Watts of the Salvation Army. “LyondellBasell consistently provides an outpouring of service. It is always nice to see a company that acknowledges the importance of philanthropy, but it is gratifying to know that each piece of this global company truly works to change their communities.”

Over the past 18 years, LyondellBasell employees and their families have cumulatively donated more than 40,000 volunteer hours during Global Care Day activities.

"A company that makes giving their time a priority shows a greater commitment to the community,” said Watts. “The Salvation Army has been serving this community since 1903, acting as a shelter for men and serving meals to the public every week. Last year, we provided over 6,000 nights of lodging to the homeless and served over 21,000 meals to the public. LyondellBasell is a company that we can trust to reliably provide the support that enables us to serve this community.”
