LyondellBasell's Matagorda Complex Employees Make Exterior Improvements to Palacios ISD Schools

Complex Participates in 18th Annual LyondellBasell Global Care Day

BAY CITY, TEXAS, Nov. 2, 2017 – LyondellBasell’s employees and contractors at its Matagorda Complex spent Saturday, October 28, restoring areas of Palacios High School and East Side Intermediate School.

For the company’s 18th Annual Global Care Day, more than a dozen of LyondellBasell’s team members replaced a chain link fence around Palacios High’s football stadium and bleachers, repaired batting cages and painted the school’s ticket booth and dugout. Volunteers also raised garden beds and refreshed landscaping at East Side Intermediate School. Additionally, gravel was removed from Palacios High School’s parking lot in preparation of the parking lot being restriped.

“There is a strong desire to invest in the places where we live and operate and this is one of the most important days of the year,” said Joe Hoinkis, Site Manager of LyondellBasell’s Matagorda Complex. “Days like today provide our employees the opportunity to make a tangible difference in our communities.”

Workers from the company’s 58 manufacturing sites and offices in 23 countries participate in Global Care Day. Over the past 18 years, LyondellBasell employees and their families have cumulatively donated more than 40,000 volunteer hours on Global Care Day.

“Companies like LyondellBasell  continuously live out their philanthropic commitments which help positively shape, support, and improve our schools and neighborhoods. This is especially true when considering their support after our most recent experience in dealing with the effects of Hurricane Harvey.” said Superintendent Dr. Alexandro Flores, of the Palacios Independent School District. “The difference their volunteers have made at the two schools in our district will be felt and seen by our students and staff for years to come.”

At its Matagorda Complex, LyondellBasell produces high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a plastic used in automotive parts, food packaging and personal care products.
