LyondellBasell Global Care Day Brings Lasting Change

NEWARK, N.J. – Sept. 22, 2015 – Employees from the LyondellBasell Newark Plant and their families  helped update Marist High School as part of the Company’s annual Global Care Day. Volunteers worked to beautify the campus by painting a large multi-purpose sports and study room, along with installing new flooring.

“Having LyondellBasell here for their Global Care Day is important because it means that we will be able to remodel portions of the school,” said Mark Lenzo, Marist High School director of Transportation and Facilities. “These types of upgrades are completely unattainable without this kind of help. Because of LyondellBasell’s efforts, we will now be able to utilize this space for both academic and athletic programs.”

The Company's 16th annual Global Care Day encourages LyondellBasell employees around the world to collectively participate in community service projects on the same day. This year, approximately 2,600 volunteers are investing their time and talents on projects in the areas of education, health and the environment – the core focuses of our Elements of Engagement community philanthropy strategy.

“Volunteering is important to me because I feel it is very humbling and heroic to give to those who can use the help,” said Mario Paparozzi, Newark Plant laboratory technician. “The work completed today has been much needed for years, but funds have not been available and the students will benefit immensely from the hard work of our volunteers.”

Marist High School, founded in 1954, is a private college preparatory school. The school strives to nurture a community that fosters acceptance, generosity and mutual respect, all while creating an atmosphere conducive for learning.

“I believe that seeing the work performed on Global Care Day can only inspire our students to want to help their communities as well,” Lenzo said.
