Volunteers Enhance Playground at Newark School

LyondellBasell Global Care Day Project Benefits Local Charter School
LyondellBasell Newark Plant employees and their families worked to beautify the playground and flower beds surrounding the Greater Newark Charter School as part of the company’s Global Care Day. The event encourages LyondellBasell employees around the world to collectively participate in community service projects on the same day.
“The impact of Global Care Day to the Greater Newark Charter School and the community is immense,” said Greater Newark Charter School Pupil Personnel Services Supervisor Coretta Lawrence. “It was an honor and a privilege to participate in such a wonderful and positive event that will continue to teach our students the importance of giving back to the community and also the need for fostering educational awareness for protecting the community as well as the environment globally.”
For the company's 15th annual Global Care Day, volunteers in 20 countries on six continents demonstrated their commitment to their neighborhoods on Saturday, May 17.
“This project is important because it further advances the positive image of our facility in the city of Newark,” said Newark Plant Supervisor Michael Veal.
Over the past 15 years, approximately 25,900 LyondellBasell employees and their families have donated more than 162,800 volunteer hours supporting their communities on Global Care Day.
“It is fundamentally critical for local companies to give back to their communities, as LyondellBasell and its employees continue to do,” Lawrence said.
The Newark plant for Lyondell Chemical Company’s Equistar business covers approximately 3.5 acres and employs 9 people. The plant, originally constructed in 1954, produces denatured alcohol used in a wide variety of customer products including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and personal care items, disinfectants, cleaning solutions and industrial solvents.
