LyondellBasell to highlight leadership, innovation and collaboration at its Chinaplas 2008 exhibit

April 09, 2008

Hong Kong, China, April 9, 2008 – With the theme, “Leadership, Innovation and Collaboration”, LyondellBasell Industries will participate in Chinaplas 2008 - the 22nd International Exhibition of the Plastics and Rubber Industries - to be held from April 17 -22 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Pudong, Shanghai, China. LyondellBasell’s booth number will be W2 C11.

“As our first major appearance in China since the formation of LyondellBasell, Chinaplas will give us an excellent opportunity to introduce our new company and feature our expanded products and services to this growing market,” said Anton de Vries, President of LyondellBasell’s Polymers Division.

Commitment to Chinese market

LyondellBasell and its predecessor companies have been present in Chin for over 20 years. In 2007, the company imported over 500 KT of polyolefins into Chin and is the country’s largest polyolefins importer.

Added de Vries, “We established our first compounding facility in Suzhou in 2005, and are now building the second plant in Nansha, Guangzhou, with completion expected in September 2008. This will enable us to provide more value-adding products and services to the rapidly growing automotive, appliances and electrical & electronics markets in China.”

New products and customer success stories

With a firm commitment to the growing Chin market, LyondellBasell and its Asian joint ventures will present their innovative, industry-leading products that provide customers with a competitive advantage. In addition, LyondellBasell’s joint ventures in the Middle East will bring three lines on stream in the 2008 – 2009 time period which will supply high quality PP and PE materials to the China market.

LyondellBasell will showcase several exciting automotive application developments that feature the company’s PP compounds as well as those developed and produced by the company’s joint venture SunAllomer in Japan. One example is the Nissan MURANO’s vertical body panel, produced using an innovative LyondellBasell resin that helped the OEM achieve significant weight reductions.

The company will also feature a reinforced Hostacom compounded PP grade which offers a good balance of stiffness, impact resistance and low shrinkage for electrical and electronics applications. The specialty resin was used to produce lawn mower housings that outperformed traditional materials such as ABS.

Other product highlights will include LyondellBasell’s advanced materials from the Catalloy process and polybutene-1 (PB-1). These resins have specialized performance attributes to address a wide variety of flexible packaging requirements - fromlow adhesion for easy-opening food packaging to high elasticity and toughness for multilayer films, to high strength for stretch hood industrial packaging.

Resins produced using LyondellBasell’s state-of-the-art Spherizone polypropylene technology will also be featured, including Clyrell RC1890 and RC1314. These innovative resins, which will be available to the Chinese market, can be used on AQBF (air quenched blown film) machines and outperform standard PP in terms of transparency, softness, low seal initiation temperature (SIT), film shrinkage and processing.

To meet increasing needs for specialty polymers in medical devices, LyondellBasell will introduce its Purell family of select PP and PE grades and its Catalloy process resins for use in customer applications such as IV solution bottles, IV solution bags and Blow-Fill-Seal containers. These resins provide advantages in design, functionality and regulatory aspects.

Machinery manufacturers to demonstrate performance of LyondellBasell resins

Krauss Maffei Technologies will be running LyondellBasell’s Hostalen CRP 100 black and Hostalen CRP100 S blue resins at an Open House to be held at the machinery manufacturers’ Jiazing plant on April 16, 2008. The company will demonstrate the production of a 630 mm large diameter HDPE pipe system.

Other machinery manufacturers that will process LyondellBasell materials include:

Demag Plastics Group (booth W1 D21) featuring Hostalen GD4755 for high speed production of beverage caps
Netstal Machinery (booth E1 J11) featuring Clyrell EP540V for ice cream container lids with In-Mold Labelling System
