LyondellBasell Asia Provides Local Community Service during COVID-19

During the COVID-19 crisis, LyondellBasell (LYB) has been committed to community service. Team LYB India and Indonesia opened their hearts to support locals through food and charitable donations.

LyondellBasell India donated food packages and cash with a total value of $15,880 USD (1.2 million INR) to the Chief Minister Relief Fund-COVID-19 and local government collector offices. The donation is utilized to support three regions: Nashik, Vadodara and Kancheepuram, where LyondellBasell India operates.

Each food package is designated to support an individual’s daily needs for 7 to 10 days, including rice, cooking oil, vegetables, and spices. These supplies were given to the village administrative officers directly and were distributed amongst village people, providing immediate relief to those who are stranded and have suffered from food shortage.

“We would like to demonstrate our commitment to support the community during the crisis, and we understand that a lot of people such as migrant laborers need help at this challenging moment,” said Rajesh Chawla, the Site Manager at Sinnar.

The government office appreciated LyondellBasell’s gesture when receiving the donation.

“I felt extremely proud of working for our company who is reaching out to help the community during this crisis,” said Sandeep Lahamge (Admin Officer) and Ramesh Gandhi (HSE Manager).

In Indonesia, supported and sponsored by the local JV partner, Mr. Kindarto Kohar, the LyondellBasell Gempol site submitted 1,000 boxes of daily needs products (rice, sugar, cooking oil, canned food, coffee, noodles, snacks) to the neighborhood of Ngerong, Gempol, Indonesia, where a large number of residents have been financially impacted by the pandemic.

The Gempol site’s effort was reported and praised by the local newspaper, Nasional Politik.

“COVID-19 has impacted our community in an unprecedented manner – not only in the way we live, work and play, but also socially and economically,” stated Yohan Halim, regional sales director, Industrial, Southeast Asia. “When we talked with some of them, we could see their happiness receiving this donation but at the same time, we also listened to their heart-breaking stories on what they have been through since this pandemic broke out in Indonesia three months ago. It is one of the most tragic calamities that humanity will face, at least, during our lifetime.”
