Communities to Benefit from Company and Employee Donations

Victoria, Texas, March 01, 2017 – LyondellBasell, one of the world's largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, today announced a donation of $54,424 to the Victoria County United Way (VCUW). The funds will support 18 United Way partner agencies that assist people in need in this area.

"United Way mobilizes the caring power of communities to advance the common good; LyondellBasell is proud to be a part of their vital work," said Bob Patel, LyondellBasell CEO and chairman of the management board. "I am grateful for our employees across the U.S. who demonstrated their tremendous generosity during the company’s annual United Way campaign. Through their volunteer efforts and financial contributions, our employees exemplify our company’s mission to be a good neighbor in the communities where we operate."

LyondellBasell’s contribution from 2016 was its largest ever to date to VCUW. The Victoria Plant boasted 100 percent employee participation in the giving campaign.

Alicia Matus, site manager for LyondellBasell’s Victoria Plant, said her employees are devoted volunteers and supporters of United Way because they see firsthand the impact their involvement makes in the community.

"There are people living in this area who desperately rely on this assistance," said Matus, who is a member of the VCUW Board of Directors and serves on its Allocations Committee. "Supporting United Way is more than a corporate initiative for our employees. They know their contributions make a huge difference to the young children, adults and seniors who need it."

Dale Jones, president of the VCUW Board of Directors, said support from company partners like LyondellBasell, both financially and through volunteerism, allows United Way to help the community through worthwhile programs and services.

"LyondellBasell employees have been instrumental in helping people in this community through their active participation in VCUW’s Days of Caring Community Service Projects, as well through their very generous contributions to the community campaign," said Jones.

Executive Director of VCUW Dolly Stokes added that the success of company campaigns like LyondellBasell’s stress the direct impact their dollars will make to the community.

"The special events held at the plant allowed employees to hear firsthand the big difference a contribution makes to those in need, whether for emergency shelter, food for hungry children, a place for seniors to have lunch and socialize and the many other programs provided through employee and company donations," said Stokes.

In 2016, LyondellBasell held United Way campaigns at 23 company sites across the U.S. and raised a total of $2.65 million. The money raised by the company’s campaign will benefit thousands of programs across the country that people in need rely upon.
