Corpus Christi Complex Supports Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dec. 08, 2015 – LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, presented a $10,000 corporate grant to the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend. Funds from the donation will support hands-on training in the craft fields for local high school students.

This is the second year in a row the Company has donated a $10,000 grant to the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend. Funds provided last year were used to help furnish a new classroom with equipment, books and support adult evening classes instructed by LyondellBasell employees.

“Demand for highly-trained and safe workers in industry-related fields continues to grow in the area,” said LyondellBasell Corpus Christi Maintenance Manager David Myers. “This partnership with the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend will teach students the skills they need to fill the demand now and in the future.”

The donation supports a program called “The Future of America,” which emphasizes career awareness and training for instrumentation, pipefitting, construction, welding and electrical jobs. Students are challenged to use their math and science skills to complete various projects, as well practice the rules of safety outlined in industry standards.

“Our workforce is in our public schools. This is where we can start training and exposing high school students to craft fields using hands-on applications,” said Craft Training Center President Mike Sandroussi. “Career awareness in these areas, as well as industry related fields, can begin as early as the fifth or sixth grade.”

For more than 25 years, the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend has played a critical role in the Corpus Christi area. By giving access to the right education and relevant training, the students gain an advantage in their career journey. LyondellBasell workers can often be found at the center volunteering their time to interact with the classes and discussing career opportunities.
