PASADENA, March 9, 2011 -- The Bayport Polymers Plant of Equistar Chemicals, LP, a LyondellBasell company, reached 1 million safe work hours without an injury Feb. 25, one of several safety records the plant currently holds.
The site, one of three LyondellBasell plants in Bayport, also has worked more than a year without an OSHA-recordable injury for employees or contractors and has had only one recordable since July 2004. An OSHA-recordable injury is one which requires medical treatment other than of a minor first-aid nature.
“These are outstanding accomplishments by our employees and contractors,” said site manager Guy Tremblay. “The Bayport Polymers Plant has a history of working safely. All who work here have a genuine concern for each other and for making sure we all go home safely.”
The safe work performance is even more significant because the plant undertook challenging projects during this time, such as a large-scale demolition ongoing since last year and several unit outages for maintenance since late 2009, Tremblay said.
The LyondellBasell Bayport Polymers Plant has approximately 400 employees and contractors. It produces basic building-block chemicals that our customers convert into consumer products, such as food containers, medical syringes, carpeting, diapers and plastic components in vehicles.
