On Saturday, April 9, 2011, LyondellBasell volunteers in 64 communities located in 24 countries where the company operates participated in Global Care Day projects.

This will be the 2nd consecutive year LyondellBasell Fairport Harbor Site has partnered with the Fairport Harbor Marine Museum and Lighthouse to help preserve the historic site and grounds for the lighthouse that was originally built in 1825, and rebuilt in 1871. Employees, families and friends of the Fairport Harbor Historical Society will spend the day painting inside the lighthouse and museum, revitalizing the landscaping, and assisting in the upkeep of the storage annex and access ramps.

“Global Care Day is a significant day that LyondellBasell recognizes where our employees and families have an opportunity to give back to our community, said Jim Hillier, site manager for LyondellBasell Fairport Harbor. “I cannot think of a better project for our community than continuing our efforts with the Fairport Harbor Historical Society to preserve our cherished local landmark.”

Global Care Day began in 2000 as a way to reach out to local communities where the company operates. Global Care Day challenges employees worldwide to participate in community service above and beyond ongoing community involvement activities with a special project on the same day. Each participating site selects a project that meets the following criteria: It addresses a community need, it is aligned with one of the company’s community-relations focus-areas of education, environmental quality or community sustainability and the result will be a visible improvement because of employee involvement.
