LyondellBasell Supports Future Workforce

Channelview Complex Donation Supports College of the Mainland

LyondellBasell Channelview Complex awarded College of the Mainland a $10,000 corporate grant during a check presentation at its latest board meeting. The funds will support Process Technology scholarships and the college’s Education Career Pathways Program which assists students vying for careers in industry. 

“The College of the Mainland is a tremendous resource for us when it comes to potential employees,” said LyondellBasell Channelview Operations Manager David Gosnay. “Our support also includes dozens of internships over the years that have directly translated into full-time jobs at our facilities.”

The College of the Mainland’s program will allow students to pay for tests that are required to enroll. Upon completion of the program, the students receive the certificate or credential necessary for a future career in the high demand fields of HVAC repair, welding and safety. 

“This donation will support programs for students at College of the Mainland who are training for jobs in the petrochemical industry or for safety occupations,” said College of the Mainland’s Department Chair for the Occupational Safety and Health Technology Program, Dr. Jeff Oakley. “Our partnership with LyondellBasell will help us train today’s students for tomorrow’s careers.”

LyondellBasell’s Channelview Complex is one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the Gulf Coast with approximately 2,000 employees and contractors and covering an area of almost 3,900 acres. The north side of the complex features two world scale olefins units which manufacture ethylene, propylene, butadiene and benzene for LyondellBasell's Equistar business. The south side of the complex uses the feedstocks produced at the north plant to make propylene oxide, styrene monomer and other derivatives.
