Fighting to End Hunger in Houston’s Youth

June 19, 2012

CHANNELVIEW, Texas, June 19, 2012 – A donation of approximately $5,000 of perishable and non-perishable food by LyondellBasell to Kids’ Meals Houston will help feed hungry youth in the Houston area.

“Thanks to LyondellBasell and their Channelview employees, we will be able to assemble hundreds of grocery bags for our families and continue our mission to end hunger among children by delivering nutritious meals to the doors of children in need,” said Kids Meals Houston Development Manager, Beth Braniff Harp.

Kids’ Meals Houston is the only meals-on-wheels service in Texas for poverty-stricken pre-school children that deliver healthy lunches free of charge. Often, this is the only nourishing meal these young children will receive each day.  Last year, Kids’ Meals Houston prepared and distributed almost 400-thousand lunches to hungry kids all over Houston.

“The economic downturn has left poor families relying on schools to provide a healthy lunch for their children, but with kids out of school during summer break, this was a great alternative to help to bridge the gap for those families in need,” said Karen Westbrooks, SAP Business Analyst at LyondellBasell’s Channelview Complex.
