Visit Provided In-Depth Look at Facility and Chance to Meet Employees

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana, August 23, 2017 – Employees from LyondellBasell’s Lake Charles Polymers Plant in Westlake, La., today hosted a visit by United States Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA). The congressman and his staff were briefed on the plant’s operations and met with LyondellBasell employees.

“It has been an honor to have Congressman Higgins join us at our Lake Charles site today. We are pleased to share this plant’s excellent safety record with him and to introduce him to the many ways the products produced here are advancing solutions for modern life,” said Shawn Cullen, LyondellBasell’s Lake Charles Polymers Plant site manager. “Congressman Higgins understands the importance of manufacturing to our region and we look forward to working with him as he advocates for policies that continue to grow our economy and competitiveness.”

Congressman Higgins received a tour of the plant to learn more about daily operations at the facility before engaging in a town hall meeting with workers from the site. During his visit, Higgins discussed tax, trade and other legislative policies impacting industry in Louisiana and answered questions from employees.

“Louisiana is the third largest chemistry producing state and plants like this serve as local economic engines, producing polymers that make up countless everyday items,” said Rep. Higgins. “It was a privilege to visit with the employees at the LyondellBasell Lake Charles Plant and field their questions on policies impacting the petrochemical industry. This is a great facility and one of the many employers benefitting from Southwest Louisiana’s energy boom.”

U.S. Rep. Higgins represents the Third Congressional District of Louisiana in which the Lake Charles Plant is located. Higgins is a strong champion of free markets and has been a vocal supporter of Louisiana’s energy producers and its petrochemical industry since taking office in January this year.

The LyondellBasell Lake Charles Polymers Plant was recently awarded the 2016 Distinguished Safety Award from American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers for a superior level of personal and process safety performance. It was one of only four sites in the industry to receive this prestigious award. Approximately 250 employees and contractors work at the site which produces polypropylene and catalloy resins that are used to create items such as caps and closures, food packaging, small household appliances, automotive exteriors and construction and roofing materials. The materials that are safely and reliably produced at the plant play an important role in advancing solutions in food safety, fuel efficiency and sustainable and modern living.
