LyondellBasell’s Matagorda Plant Brightens Holiday for Hundreds of Local Elementary Students

December 27, 2017

BAY CITY, Texas – Dec. 20, 2017 –  Employees at the Matagorda Complex of LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB), one of the world's largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies, have donated toys for more than 150 students at Matagorda Elementary for the 12th consecutive year. Since 2005, every student at the school has had a gift to open during the holidays thanks to the plant’s employees.

LyondellBasell Matagorda Toy Donation

“Helping to make this time of year brighter and more memorable for every single student on the campus for over a decade is one of our proudest accomplishments,” said Joe Hoinkis, Site Manager of LyondellBasell’s Matagorda Complex. “My wish is that our contributions provide some relief to those families still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey and any others facing challenges this holiday season.”

LyondellBasell employees organized events, such as the plant’s annual brisket auction, to raise money for purchasing the toys that were donated. When the plant first began giving holiday gifts to the school in 2005, the total student population was approximately 56. Since then, the number of students at the school has tripled – as so has the amount of employee giving.

Additionally, LyondellBasell employees have supported Matagorda Elementary in a number of other ways, including repairing sections of the school’s playground equipment and developing a garden and sitting area around the playground.

At its Matagorda Complex, LyondellBasell produces high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a plastic used in automotive parts, food packaging and personal care products. For more information, visit www.lyb.com/matagorda.
