Contributions to Local Economy Cited

MORRIS, Ill. – Mar. 12, 2014 – The LyondellBasell Morris Complex has been named 2013 Business of the Year by the Grundy County Economic Development Council (GEDC).

“LyondellBasell has been the anchor to the Grundy County industrial corridor since 1969 and the Morris plant continues to grow and invest,” Nancy Norton Ammer, GEDC executive director said. “Because of their contributions to the community, we are honored to name them this year’s winner of the Business of the Year Award.”

Nominees were judged on their economic impact to Grundy County in the areas of employment, capital projects and community involvement.  Employees from the site accepted the award at the organization’s annual awards ceremony.

“We’re committed to Grundy County,” Brian Angwin, Morris Complex site manager said. “Winning this award helps showcase our dedication to the local community.”

The Morris Complex is one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the Midwest.  Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene resins. These resins provide value to our society by serving as building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatterproof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects our food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable.

“LyondellBasell provides some of the best career opportunities in our community,” Ammer said. “Jobs at the Morris plant have been supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Grundy County families for 45 years and the company has proven to be a community leader in our area.”
