The new school year is off to a good start thanks to LyondellBasell Channelview workers

The new school year is off to a good start thanks to LyondellBasell Channelview workers who donated much needed supplies to school districts near the site. At a recent rally for teachers a week before school began, Channelview staff brought several truckloads of stuffed backpacks, school and office supplies to two local elementary schools, Sheldon and Harvey Brown.

“Parents need to see where these supplies for their children are coming from,” said Sheldon Elementary School Principal Kathy Spell. “A million thanks can’t begin to show how much this is appreciated. I can assure you that all of this is getting into the children’s and teacher’s hands.”

Jack Little, Channelview Site Process Specialist and his wife personally donated over 100 backpacks stuffed with school supplies during the “Operation Backpack” campaign. The couple had spread the materials across their dining room table and packed the bags over the course of a weekend to have it ready before school started.

During the rally at Harvey Brown Elementary LyondellBasell staff explained the company’s involvement with Junior Achievement and how it will benefit the school and students. Once a week, volunteers from the Channelview site will visit the school and offer instruction on various subjects.

“We’re so fortunate that LyondellBasell has been around since our campus opened in 2005,” said LaKeisha LeBlanc, Harvey Brown Principal. “They have worked so hard to be sure our students have a good experience, and their programs seem to grow every year!”

Channelview staff also had the chance to tell teachers about the other volunteer programs it offers to the schools including, Pen Pals, Explore and Experiment and the mentoring program.
