LyondellBasell Honors Employees Advancing Innovative Ideas

December 17, 2018

Areas Include Safety, Production and Operation

CLINTON, Iowa- Dec. 17, 2018 – An annual event at the LyondellBasell Clinton Complex celebrates innovation and initiative. Now in its 14th year, the Encore Awards recognizes outstanding staff who are advancing change with new ideas or solutions that deliver an impact at the facility.

“Big ideas need effective implementation so we’re celebrating staff who have given thought to their concepts from beginning to end,” said Jim Hillier, site manager of LyondellBasell’s Clinton Complex. “This is what excellence looks like. These top performers are not satisfied with just doing a great job, they assume ownership and that makes our site better.”

This year, 34 employees received awards at a site luncheon. Among the areas where the employees affected change include scheduling enhancements to safety improvements.

The Clinton Complex, which recently marked its 50-year anniversary, has invested extensively in the economic growth of the site. Expansions have more than tripled production from 380 million pounds to 1200 million pounds per year with their most recent expansion of 100 MM pounds increase in capacity.

“Innovations are needed by the people who know this site best, our employees,” said Hillier. “We encourage diversity of thought, experience, and state-of-the-art ideas that stretch and expand us to produce more efficiently, safer and smarter.”

“To be recognized by the site is an honor,” said Ron Tegeler, engineer and Encore Award recipient at the Clinton Complex. “I am very grateful to work with such an excellent group of engineers. We are always given the freedom to take ownership and drive toward solutions that truly help the long-term reliability of the plant.”

 About LyondellBasell’s Clinton Complex
With approximately 400 employees and contractors, and covering an area of almost 239 acres, the Clinton Complex is one of the largest chemical plants in Iowa. Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins are the building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable.
