Marine Division Receives Headsets

LA PORTE, Texas – June 27, 2018 – The La Porte Complex of LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB), one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world, donated $5,000 to the Harris County Sherriff’s Office Foundation, helping the Harris County Sherriff’s Office (HCSO) purchase tactical headsets for its Marine Division. The headsets will enhance safety by enabling deputies to communicate hands free when boarding vessels and performing tactical operations.

“Our donation is one way to demonstrate our appreciation for the brave men and women who routinely make considerable sacrifices for our safety and wellbeing,” said Chris Cain, site manager of LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex. “The headsets were a top item on the organization’s wish list and I’m proud our company could aid in obtaining equipment essential to the division.”

HCSO’s Marine Division has been patrolling the extensive waterways of Harris County for more than 50 years. The division consists exclusively of reserve deputies who respond to all drownings, boating accidents and other water-related emergencies in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. Additionally, deputies conduct water patrols of the San Jacinto River, Lake Houston and Clear Lake.

“Effective communication is critical to the tasks deputies execute and the headsets will allow them to work more efficiently and safely,” said Harris County Sheriff’s Office Chief Edison Toquica. “Our law enforcement professionals do so much to protect our waterways and we appreciate strong partners like LyondellBasell who support them.”

With its substantial search capabilities, the division has assisted agencies outside of Harris County on a variety of investigations, including the recovery of the Space Shuttle Columbia. The group also conducts extensive rescue efforts during hurricanes, like Harvey, tropical storms and floods. It has a large fleet of 17 boats, ranging from river patrol boats, airboats, offshore capable patrol and rescue craft.

The La Porte Complex donation was made through LyondellBasell’s corporate grants program, established to help further the company’s mission to make a positive impact in the communities where it operates. Grant recipients represent a broad range of charitable organizations that support the areas of health, education, first responders and the environment.

In addition to providing local assistance through grants, employees of LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex advance solutions in our community each year through volunteerism, fundraising, guest teaching and speaking engagements, hosting site tours and holding board positions in several local organizations.
