Houston Refinery

In 2025, LyondellBasell (LYB) began decommissioning its refining business at the Houston Refinery, and the facility is no longer refining crude oil. Certain systems remain in place to support safe and orderly decommissioning, and the location continues to store and transfer materials related to other regional LYB operations.

LYB continues to assess future options for the site to support company circularity and low carbon initiatives. Alternatives under consideration include development of commercial-scale chemical recycling infrastructure with the company's proprietary MoReTec technology. Other options range from exploring production of renewable and bio-based feedstocks, to supporting growth in low-carbon feedstocks and products.
