LYB Leadership: Get to know board member and entrepreneur Tony Chase

Learning From a Leader: How LYB Board Member Tony Chase Turns Opportunities into Sustainable Successes

When it comes to entrepreneurial success, opportunity abounds — but not without taking risks that are right-sized to the possible reward. This guiding philosophy has led LYB Board Member Tony Chase to a highly successful career as an entrepreneur and business leader for nearly 30 years.

In a September 2024 episode of the LYB podcast, Tony shared his inspiring journey with host Deepi Sidhu — from his early years in Houston to his current role as the CEO of ChaseSource LP, one of the nation's largest minority-owned businesses.

Tony walked through his wide-ranging career, including his studies at Harvard Law School, his early banking career on Wall Street and his long tenure teaching at the University of Houston. He also discussed his business ventures in radio stations, Cricket Wireless and more — each one presenting its own challenges, opportunities and lessons. At each step, he relied on the same core approach: stay curious, take calculated risks and develop innovative strategies to solve challenges.

Tony also shared his deep connections with his parents, wife and kids. His father's groundbreaking accomplishments as the first black graduate of the University of Texas and the first black architect in Texas instilled in him the belief that ambition and perseverance can open doors.

Tony shared his belief that everyone has an entrepreneurial spark, whether they lead a small team or a global company. And at LYB, he sees that spirit alive in initiatives like the Value Enhancement Program and the Circular and Low Carbon Solutions group — initiatives that can enable a bright future for the company and the industries it serves.
