LyondellBasell Global Care Day Brings Lasting Change

TUSCOLA, Ill. – Sept. 26, 2018 – LyondellBasell Tuscola employees and their families focused on bringing beauty to the Tuscola Health Center as part of the company’s Global Care Day. Now in its 19th year, the event encourages LyondellBasell staff around the world to collectively participate in community service projects.

“With more than 50 volunteers, we’re able to provide a lot of manual labor in a short amount of time,” said Aaron McKee, Tuscola site manager. “Our staff visited the location beforehand to map out a plan and decide on what type of equipment we needed. The goal is to be as efficient and safe as possible while bringing a smile to all of those who come through the doors here.”

The facility has a long sidewalk leading to a front entrance that greets visitors and staff. Crews moved wheelbarrows full of mulch and planted brightly colored flowers that will thrive in the fall. Volunteers also landscaped other parts of the grounds to help prepare for the approaching cold weather.

“This is about more than a first impression, beautiful landscaping provides a warm welcome and reflects the care and attention to detail that can be found all throughout our center,” said Allison Cler, administrator, Tuscola Health Center. “Connecting with nature is an important part of one’s wellbeing.”

The plants were paid for by LyondellBasell.

“Whether it’s a short recuperation or a longer stay, we wanted to make sure everyone who comes here feel their spirits pick up as they walk towards the front door,” said Bill Suding, LyondellBasell maintenance mechanic and volunteer coordinator. “At the end of the day, we’re tired but leave with a great feeling of satisfaction.”

Over the past 19 years, approximately 30,000 LyondellBasell employees and their families have donated more than 190,000 volunteer hours in support of their communities on Global Care Day.
