With approximately 19,200 dedicated employees, LyondellBasell produces essential materials, products, and solutions to meet the challenges of modern society worldwide. The production sites in Wesseling and Hürth-Knapsack play a key role in this effort: The large Wesseling site, with six production units, and the smaller Hürth-Knapsack site, with two units, are market leaders in the manufacture of polyolefins.
Polyolefins—saturated hydrocarbons—represent the largest group of plastics used globally, accounting for nearly 50 percent of all applications. At Wesseling, these materials are produced in the form of pellets and granules across an area of 2.7 square kilometers. More than 1,800 employees, including around 170 apprentices, contribute every day to shaping the future of plastics production.
A highlight at the Wesseling site is the MoReTec recycling facility, which uses cutting-edge chemical recycling technology. This innovative process breaks down used plastics into their molecular building blocks, enabling the creation of new, high-quality materials. Through MoReTec, LyondellBasell makes a significant contribution to advancing the circular economy and reducing plastic waste worldwide.
