Pipeline Emergency: In the event of an emergency involving an Equistar Chemicals pipeline, call 800-525-7516
The Markham Storage Facility is one of two sites operated by LyondellBasell Equistar Pipeline along the Texas Gulf Coast. Spanning 84 acres, the facility utilizes underground salt dome caverns to store ethylene and propylene, distributing these products via pipeline to company facilities and regional customers. Three wells provide approximately 502 million pounds of storage capacity.
Operations at Markham and across the pipeline system are managed 24/7 from LyondellBasell's Clear Lake control center in Houston. This center oversees pumps and compressors, remotely operates valves, and can isolate pipeline sections or redirect flows as needed. Equipped with advanced communications technology, the control center maintains constant contact with the public and emergency responders to ensure safety.
Markham, originally named Cortes, adopted its current name in the early 1900s in honor of a Southern Pacific railroad engineer, reflecting the town's long-standing role in transportation.
