LYB helps BMW build a better bumper

When the BMW Group set out to develop a new bumper system that met strict sustainability and performance targets, LYB engineers rose to the challenge. The result: Hifax TYC 2182F, an innovative polypropylene (PP) foaming material for car parts that can reduce vehicle weight — helping boost fuel efficiency and lower emissions —without sacrificing performance or aesthetics.

Hifax TYC 2182F met BMW's needs for a lightweight material with superior scratch resistance, surface finish and weight reduction. Bumpers made with this PP foam material passed rigorous certification testing with excellent results, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.
