Bayport Polymers is committed to minimizing environmental impact through rigorous compliance and continuous improvement. We operate under multiple air, water and waste permits and adhere to consent decrees for emissions control. Our sustainability efforts include optimizing energy use and advancing technologies that lower greenhouse gas emissions. These initiatives align with the LyondellBasell global commitment to responsible manufacturing and environmental stewardship.
Active monitoring and transparency
We actively participate in the Houston Regional Monitoring program, which tracks air quality and provides data to the public. Community members can access real-time monitoring information and reports through the Houston Regional Monitoring.
We share our environmental performance with the community through the Citizen's Advisory Council to La Porte Industry and other external presentations. These forums allow us to provide updates on environmental initiatives, compliance status and sustainability progress, reinforcing transparency and trust with our stakeholders. Flaring 101
Flares are essential environmental and safety control devices used to burn vented gases in a controlled manner. Flares help safely burn gases and serve as safeguard equipment during operational events such as power loss, shutdowns, or startups. The Bayport Polymers site uses an elevated flare. Elevated flares feature a tall tower with a visible flame at the top. These devices can burn gases with a 98% or higher destruction efficiency and use steam to reduce smoke.
