Our commitment to safety

Safety is a core value at the Channelview Complex, home to Channelview North, Channelview South and Houston Technology Center sites. We follow GoalZERO principles, which guide every task with the objective of zero injuries and zero incidents. These principles include stopping work if conditions are unsafe, intervening when hazards are observed and reporting all incidents immediately so others can learn. Safety is everyone's responsibility, and we take the time needed to do each job correctly.

Emergency preparedness

The complex maintains a robust Emergency Response Team with specialized units for fire, medical and marine emergencies. This team provides 24/7 coverage and is fully equipped to handle incidents without relying on community resources, ensuring that local emergency services remain available for public needs.

Our Emergency Response Team includes more than 200 trained members organized into five groups: Fire Haz-Mat, Fire Apparatus, Rescue Responders, Emergency Medical Responders and Marine Spill Responders. The Emergency Response Team maintains and operates several fire trucks and ambulances dedicated to onsite emergencies. Training occurs year-round at the facility and through advanced programs at Texas A&M Fire School.

Communications Center

The Communications Center operates around the clock to support emergency preparedness. It monitors all radio communications, answers emergency and non-emergency calls, issues weather alerts and dispatches emergency response teams. The center also controls remote gates, manages emergency notifications and sends Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) messages to keep the community informed. This centralized function ensures rapid coordination and effective response during any incident.

Community alert systems

We use several methods to keep the community informed during emergencies. Managed by East Harris County Manufacturers Association, the provides real-time updates on industrial incidents, flaring, noise and drills. Onsite sirens are also used to signal emergencies, evacuations, and all-clear notifications. These systems help ensure that residents and businesses receive timely and accurate information.

Know what's below, call 811 before you dig

Call 811 before you dig

Here's how it works:
  1. Notify: Call 811 or visit Call811.com at least two days before you dig.
  2. Wait: Utility companies' representatives will mark their lines or inform you if there are no lines in your area.
  3. Confirm: Make sure all utilities have responded before you start digging.
  4. Respect: Follow the marks and dig carefully around buried utilities.

Warning Propylene Pipeline marker example

Pipeline marker example

This marker identifies the presence of an underground pipeline and provides critical information such as the pipeline operator, product transported, and emergency contact number.

While markers indicate the general location of a pipeline, they do not show the exact position or depth. Always call 811 before digging to prevent damage and ensure safety.

Community connection

We listen and engage with Channelview and surrounding communities on events, efforts and concerns that matter most.
