Channelview South is part of the LYB Channelview Complex along the Houston Ship Channel. This facility transforms olefins from the Channelview North site into advanced intermediates and derivatives that serve a wide range of industries. Channelview South produces propylene oxide, styrene monomer, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) and polyols. These products are essential for high-octane gasoline additives, adhesives, coatings and household furnishings.
Since its start in the late 1970s, Channelview South has grown into a global leader in propylene oxide and tertiary butyl alcohol production, operating one of the largest PO/TBA plants in the world. Our team is committed to safety, sustainability and innovation, ensuring reliable supply for customers while supporting the regional economy and community.
Channelview South began operations in the late 1970s with the introduction of the Propylene Oxide and Styrene Monomer (POSM) units. POSM I was commissioned in 1977, followed by POSM II in 1992. Over time, the plant expanded to include polyols production, strengthening its position in the petrochemical industry. In 2023, the site achieved a major milestone with the start-up of one of the world's largest Propylene Oxide and Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (PO/TBA) plants.
Channelview South plays a critical role in converting olefins from Channelview North into intermediates and derivatives used across diverse markets. Its product portfolio includes propylene oxide, styrene monomer, MTBE, ETBE, tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) and polyols.
These materials produced at Channelview South are vital for producing high-octane gasoline additives, automotive components, adhesives, coatings, foam products and specialty chemicals.
We listen and engage with Channelview and surrounding communities on events, efforts and concerns that matter most.
