We actively participate in the Houston Regional Monitoring program, which tracks air quality and provides data to the public. Community members can access real-time monitoring information and reports through the Houston Regional Monitoring.
We share our environmental and safety performance with the community through the Citizen's Advisory Council to La Porte Industry and other external presentations. These forums allow us to provide updates on environmental initiatives, compliance status and sustainability progress, reinforcing transparency and trust with our stakeholders. Other resources for the site's environmental performance include the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Sustainability is central to our strategy and is how we protect, create and deliver value for society and for our business. Our approach is built on strong foundations of safe and reliable operations, unlocking change through our people, partnerships and investments, and pioneering transformative solutions that enable circular and low-carbon products. We put this into action by investing in technologies that enable recycling and reuse of plastics, reducing greenhouse gas emissions across operations and supporting programs that strengthen communities. Flares are essential environmental and safety control devices used to burn vented gases in a controlled manner. The Bayport Choate site uses elevated emergency and continuous flares. Elevated flares feature a tall tower with a visible flame at the top. These devices can burn gases with a 98% or higher destruction efficiency and use steam to reduce smoke. Continuous flares are used during normal operations. Emergency flares are typically used for unplanned shutdowns and start-ups but always have a pilot flame to ensure that they are ready when needed.
We listen and engage with Bayport and surrounding communities on events, efforts and concerns that matter most.
