The impact of Advancing Good in Europe and Asia

Through its global citizenship program, Advancing Good, LYB invests in charitable organizations supporting three key focus areas: Advancing Our Communities, Advancing Our Planet and Advancing Tomorrow's Workforce. Check out the recent highlights from Advancing Good initiatives and donations to local charities across Europe and Asia:

Belgium – Bornem

The Bornem site recently presented a check worth €2.700 to A Touch of Rose, an oncological well-being center named after politician Marie-Rose Morel, who lost her battle with uterine cancer, leaving behind two sons.  Founded in September 2011, the center was built seven months after the death of Morel. The 38-year-old mother gained attention after detailing her struggles in two diaries and showing courageous resilience in her battle. Her story opened the conversations surrounding cancer for many dealing with similar diagnoses.

England - Milton Keynes

The Milton Keynes site donated £16,200 over the course of five years, helping to fund essential equipment and medical consumables for Thames Valley Air Ambulance. The latest donation of £4,200 will fund a new equipment storage cage and drugs cupboard, essential to the safe and secure storage of vital medical resources.

France - Fos

The Fos site donated €2.000 to support Association 21 Rêves, a local organization that spotlights people with Down Syndrome with an annual fashion show. In June 2023 , 20 models from the 21 Association Rêves Association took part in the show at Cours Mirabeau for a fashion show themed "Underwater," featuring custom-made pieces created by students from the fashion design school in Aix. 

France - Givet

The Givet site recently donated €4.700 to Secours Populaire Français, a non-profit organization operating on donations and legacy funds dedicated to fighting poverty and discrimination in France and around the world. Secours Populaire Français, aims to unite people of all opinions, origins and backgrounds who wish to live in solidarity.

Germany - Bayreuth

Last year, the Bayreuth site presented a check of €5.000 to Wir Sind Alle Gleich, a local organization founded in 2020 by parents of children with special needs. The organization's main goal is to provide a social life in work, housing and leisure and to offer the children the same opportunities for a self-determined life as their peers.

Germany - Münchsmünster

Recently, the Münchsmünster site donated €3.000 to Hollerhaus Ingolstadt. This non-profit organization supports people with disabilities in leading a self-determined life and while improving quality and enjoyment of life.

KUNO Foundation

The Münchsmünster site donated €3.000 to Stiftung Kinder-Universitätsklinik für Ostbayern (KUNO), a public foundation based in Regensburg which was established in 2003 by the University Hospital Regensburg. The purpose of the foundation is the construction, maintenance and operation of a university children's clinic for Eastern Bavaria at the two locations Klinik St. Hedwig der Barmherzigen Brüder Regensburg and Uniklinik Regensburg. This clinic makes it possible for children to receive the highest level of local medical care in Eastern Bavaria. With the help of the KUNO Foundation, enough donations could be collected to build a new building at the University Hospital and the expansion of the existing St. Hedwig Clinic. 

Technisches Hilfswerk

Organization Technisches Hilfswerk provides technical assistance in the event of floods, traffic accidents, fires, searches for missing persons, power failures, storms and much more. A professional service provider for the fire department, police, local authorities and other institutions, Technisches Hilfswerk provides support around the clock. The 60 active members of the local association are on call on a purely voluntary basis for the citizens of the city, the district, throughout Germany and even for accidents abroad. With Münchsmünster’s donation of €3.000, the organization will buy two high-quality LED emergency lighting units, creating a more efficient and safer working environment during evening accidents or rescue operations.

CF Initiative Aktiv e.V.

The Münchsmünster site donated €3.000 to Munich-based cf-initiative-aktiv e.V., a non-profit organization and charitable association. The charity’s mission is to support families and patients on their difficult journeys through cystic fibrosis (CF) disease. This organization helps CF patients and families, dealing with the highs and lows of the disease, while providing support for the CF outpatient clinics as well as in the field of research.

Italy – Ferrara

Last year, the Ferrara site donated more than 3,500 products, approximately 60 shopping carts. Employees volunteered during food drives and assisted non-profit associations during World Food Day.

The Ferrara site also donated € 5.000 to Il Mantello, a voluntary association that provides ongoing care services in the field of palliative care, in collaboration with public institutions such as Azienda Socio Sanitaria Territoriale (ASST) Lariana and Agenzia di Tutela della Salute (ATS) Insubria and with other voluntary organizations in the area that share the same mission.

The Netherlands - Rotterdam

For World Food Day, Rotterdam employees set up stations in 10 supermarkets, asking customers to buy one extra item and donate it to the Rotterdam Food Bank. For every item donated, LYB added two more in the “Buy one and LYB buys two more” campaign where customers donated a total of €7.300 in goods. To align with the Food Bank’s needs, the site contributed a double donation of pasta and rice. In November, 5.500 packs of penne and 5.250 packs of rice (worth €14.600) arrived at the distribution center of Rotterdam Food Bank.

The Netherlands – Botlek and Maasvlakte

During his retirement farewell speech last November, LYB staff member Ronald Baak talked about his commitment to Alzheimer Nederland. Baak’s colleagues decided to raise money for his cause. Employees collected €1.181 while Advancing Good contributed €3.300 to the organization.

De Plantage

Through the Advancing Good program, the Botlek and Maasvlakte sites were able to present a cheque to De Plantage in Brielle. De Plantage is a care facility in Brielle that accommodates about 150 people including elderly patients diagnosed with dementia, somatic-care indication and young people with non-congenital brain injury. Every year, staff at De Plantage organize a fun activity for all the residents. In doing so, they depend on donations from third parties because of ever-shrinking budgets. Thanks to the site’s donation of €8.000, the residents of De Plantage were able to visit the Christmas Circus in Rotterdam.

Spain - Tarragona

The Tarragona site donated €1.230 to Associació d’Alzheimer Reus, Spain.

The Association for Alzheimer's and other neurocognitive disorders of Reus and Baix Camp is a non-profit organization with more than twenty years of experience providing detection services and direct therapeutic care, under the name of Lerín Neurocognitive Institute. The association also collaborates in research work and develops projects to inform, raise awareness, guide and advise the public.

Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City

LYB Vietnam recently granted 120,000,000 VND (€4.503) to Lotus Charity Foundation. This charity’s mission is to provide food and healthcare aid to the homeless and underprivileged in as many parts of Vietnam as possible. With this donation, Lotus Charity Organization provided 1.566 meals, four electric 3-wheel bikes for disabled persons and scholarship and gifts for 68 children in a local orphanage home
