ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- LyondellBasell Industries announced today that Ed Dineen has been appointed chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Most recently president of LyondellBasell's Chemicals division with responsibilities for global chemicals operations, sales and business management, Dineen has served with the company and its predecessors for more than 30 years. Past positions with predecessor Lyondell Chemical include senior vice president, Chemicals and Polymers, and senior vice president, Urethanes and Performance Chemicals.

Dineen began his career with predecessor ARCO Chemical in 1977. He advanced through a number of positions in the Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety, Manufacturing, Business Management and Financial functions. In 1993, he was appointed vice president, Planning and Control for ARCO Chemical European Operations, located in Maidenhead, UK. In 1995, he became vice president, Worldwide Co-Products and Raw Materials.

A native of Queens, New York, Dineen received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from the Cooper Union and Princeton University, respectively. He also holds a Master of Science in management from Drexel University. He is a member of the boards of directors of Spartech, a U.S.-based plastics company with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas.
