LyondellBasell Progressing Toward Restart of Gulf Coast Plants

September 19, 2008

LyondellBasell continues to make progress toward the restart of its 13 Gulf Coast facilities that were shut down in preparation for Hurricane Ike. The Corpus Christi olefins plant remained in operation.

Startup procedures will be in progress at most plants by next week, although full functionality could take longer to achieve at some sites. An exception is the Beaumont plant where inspections and assessments are continuing.

The limited availability of feedstock and industrial gasses continues to present a challenge to our sites and to others in our industry. This, and transportation logistics, could initially limit our ability to return our plants to their pre-shutdown operating rates. Our number one operational priority remains the safety of our people at our facilities.

A key focus remains accounting for and addressing the personal needs of the workers at our facilities who have been impacted by this devastating storm. The LyondellBasell Disaster Relief Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is helping to address the needs of many employees and their families all along the Gulf Coast, and volunteers from the company are active in communities helping their colleagues recover from the disaster.
