The LyondellBasell (LYB) Channelview Complex (CVO) marked its 15th annual Global Safety Day (GSD) with a community outreach initiative to highlight its commitment to safety. This year's GSD focused on reinforcing safety protocols and extended its impact on the community.
Global Safety Day activities:
Over 700 essential operations personnel participated in pre-celebration activities to set the stage for a successful event. Approximately 2,000 employees, contractors and vendors engaged in safety-focused events to enhance safety awareness and promote teamwork. Activities included a Safety Expo with vendors and LYB teams, accompanied by an exceptional Safety DJ and a facility siting game highlighting proper building siting and exclusion zones. A fun addition was a Cash Cab to reinforce site safety requirements and additional games that demonstrated safe management of hazardous conditions while operating remote equipment.

Book Drive Initiative:
Concurrent with GSD, CVO hosted a book drive for the Channelview Independent School District Literacy Bus, a mobile reading and education lab funded by Channelview Complex as part of the LYB global corporate citizenship program, Advancing Good.
Post GSD, employees donated 1,880 books, supporting the ongoing commitment to education and community engagement. These donations will benefit approximately 940 children, and 13 volunteers contributed around 72 volunteer hours to sort and prepare the books.

Reflecting on the Events:
GSD and the accompanying book drive highlight how CVO integrates safety with community well-being for continued community support and safety excellence. James Sullivan, senior engineer in Process Safety, expressed, “Global Safety Day is a cornerstone of our commitment to safety, and integrating the Literacy Bus to kick off the book drive simultaneously illustrates our dedication to maintaining safety standards and enriching the lives of those around us.”
